Grade: Pre-Kindergarten Type: ODE Model Lesson Plans Description: Students will initiate and sustain a conversation of three or more exchanges on a topic while exploring a collection of large photographs pertaining to that topic. The teacher will create a comfortable setting and provide a variety of books and/or a collection of mounted photographs to enjoy and talk about in a climate of verbal explorations. Ohio Standards Connection: Primary Standards, Benchmarks, and Indicators: Standard: Communications: Oral and Visual Benchmark: A. Use active listening strategies to identify the main idea and to gain information from oral presentations. Indicator: 1. Attend to speakers, stories, poems and songs. Benchmark: B. Connect prior experiences, insights and ideas to those of a speaker. Indicator: I 2. Connect information and events to personal experiences by sharing or commenting. Benchmark: D. Speak clearly and at an appropriate pace and volume. Indicator: 4. Speak clearly and understandably to express ideas, feelings and needs. Indicator: 5. Initiate and sustain a conversation through turn taking. Secondary Standards, Benchmarks and Indicators: Standard: Acquisition of Vocabulary Benchmark A. Use context clues to determine the meaning of new vocabulary. Indicator: 1. Understand the meaning of new words from the context of conversations, the use of pictures that accompany text or the use of concrete objects. Standard: Reading Applications: Informational, Technical and Persuasive Text Benchmark A. Use text features and structures to organize content, draw conclusions and build text knowledge. Indicator: 1. Use pictures and illustrations to aid comprehension. Benchmark D. Use visual aids as sources to gain additional information from text. Indicator: 4. Gain text information from pictures, photos, simple charts and labels. |
Grade: Pre-Kindergarten Type: ODE Model Lesson Plans Description: Children will identify the words that express feelings in the context of stories and/or the use of pictures as a reference to demonstrate their understanding of word meanings. In addition, children will increase their vocabulary around emotion-words synonymous with basic feelings by deciphering their meaning in the context of stories. Ohio Standards Connection: Primary Standards, Benchmarks, and Indicators: Standard: Acquisition of Vocabulary Benchmark: A. Use context clues to determine the meaning of new vocabulary. Indicator: 1. Understand the meaning of new words from the context of conversations, the use of pictures that accompany text or the use of concrete objects. Secondary Standards, Benchmarks and Indicators: Standard: Reading Process: Concepts of Print, Comprehension Strategies and Self-Monitoring Strategies Benchmark A. Establish a purpose for reading and use a range of reading comprehension strategies to understand literary passages and text. Indicator: 3. Begin to distinguish print from pictures. These designated indicators call for demonstration of a task or skill that readily lends itself to teacher observation. Standard: Communications: Oral and Visual Benchmark A.
