red book Transformations — Grade Ten blue book
Grade: Grade 10
Type: ODE Model Lesson Plans
Description: Students will recognize, perform and derive rules for basic transformations including translation, reflection and rotation. They also will consider compositions, a combination of two or more basic transformations. Students will explore both transformations and compositions within a coordinate plane.
Ohio Standards Connection:
Primary Standards, Benchmarks, and Indicators:
Standard:
  Geometry and Spatial Sense
Benchmark: F.  Represent and model transformations in a coordinate plane and describe the results.
Indicator: 8.  Derive coordinate rules for translations, reflections and rotations of geometric figures in the coordinate plane.
Indicator: 9.  Show and describe the results of combinations of translations, reflections and rotations (compositions); e.g., perform compositions and specify the result of a composition as the outcome of a single motion, when applicable.
Standard:  Mathematical Processes Standard
Benchmark: C.  Recognize and use connections between equivalent representations and related procedures for a mathematical concept; e.g., zero of a function and the x-intercept of the graph of the function, apply proportional thinking when measuring, describing functions, and comparing probabilities.
Secondary Standards, Benchmarks and Indicators:
Standard:
Geometry and Spatial Sense
Benchmark  G.  Prove or disprove conjectures and solve problems involving two- and three-dimensional objects represented within a coordinate system.
red book Using Geometric Probability: Until We Meet -- Grade Tenblue book
Grade: Grade 10
Type:
ODE Model Lesson Plans
Description: Students will conduct a simulation of a real-world situation and construct a mathematical model using geometric probability to find the probability of the occurrence of an event. During the lesson, students will encounter actual and theoretical probabilities and have the opportunity to consider the usefulness of each within the context of the situation. This lesson is most appropriate after an introduction to geometric probability.
Ohio Standards Connection:
Primary Standards, Benchmarks, and Indicators:
Standard:
  Data Analysis and Probability
Benchmark: J.  Compute probabilities of compound events, independent events, and simple dependent events.
Indicator: 7.  Model problems dealing with uncertainty with area models (geometric probability).
Standard:  Mathematical Processes Standard
Benchmark: B.  Apply mathematical knowledge and skills routinely in other content areas and practical situations.
Secondary Standards, Benchmarks and Indicators:
Standard:
Measurement
Benchmark  A.  Solve increasingly complex non-routine measurement problems and check for reasonableness of results.
Standard:  Patterns, Functions and Algebra
Benchmark  D.  Use algebraic representations, such as tables, graphs, expressions, functions and inequalities, to model and solve problem situations.
