Question of the Day
Do you celebrate Christmas?
To begin our Christmas study we will first ask each student if they celebrate Christmas. We will create a Yes and No chart to display the data we gather. We will then analyze the data by comparing the results.

Large Group
Arrival Routine
Upon entering the classroom each student will go to the restroom to wash their hands before breakfast. After washing their hands the students will set up their tables for breakfast by setting out the proper tableware and utensils for that specific meal. We will then sit together and serve breakfast family style with the students. Once finished eating the students will sit on the carpet with a book while waiting for everyone to be
complete. After all of the students have finished eating they will put their books away and sit on the edge of the carpet for circle time.

Today we will review the class rules and count our friends in both English and Spanish. We will then sing the days of the week song while updating the calendar. After calendar the class will use the song charts to sing some of our favorite circle time songs. We will then go over our question of the day while introducing new
vocabulary words and tapping into our higher order thinking skills. The  letter of the week is Rr, the number is 9, the shape is square, and the color is pink.. Today's question is "Do you celebrate Christmas?"

Purpose for Reading: To reinforce the concept of Christmas and activities associated with the holiday.
Vocabulary: Holly, Sashay, Kris Kringle
Before Reading: We will discuss the various print concepts including directionality,
author/illustrator, and the parts of a book. Ask the children: "How do you think snowmen celebrate Christmas?"
During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the main characters thoughts and actions. "How do you think the snowmen made their Christmas treats?" "Why do you think the snowmen decorated the tree with snowballs?" "How else do you think the snowmen could have celebrated Christmas?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students "Do you think snowmen celebrate Christmas? Why or why not?"

Christmas Tree Inspired Painting
The students will be using our Christmas tree as inspiration for their own unique paintings. During the project we will discuss and compare the different parts of a Christmas tree. Once the students have completed their paintings they will describe what they have created.

Mighty Minutes #29- Baa, Baa, Black Sheep
Today we will sing and count along with a new song called Baa, Baa, Black Sheep. "Baa, Baa, black sheep, have you any wool? Yes sir, yes sir, [three] bags full! [One] for the master, [one] for the dame, And [one] for the little boy who lives down the lane. Baa, baa, black sheep, have you any wool? yes sir, yes sir, [three] bags full!

Shubert is a STAR
Today the children will hear the story, "Shubert is a STAR". Miss Jessica will read the story aloud while questioning and explaining the characters' behaviors/choices. After the story we will discuss the importance of our Shubert story.


Choice Time
Dramatic Play Area- Christmas Tree
To go along with our Christmas study we will be adding a small, artificial Christmas tree to the dramatic play area. The students will have the opportunity to explore the tree during free play and small group times.

Question of the Day
How do you celebrate Christmas?
Today we will discuss the different ways we
celebrate Christmas. Each student will be given a chance to share how they celebrate the holiday. We will then compile a list of the different responses and discuss how everyone celebrates differently.

Christmas theme and symbols associated with the holiday.
Vocabulary: Reindeer, Snowbank, Nuzzle
Before Reading: We will discuss the various print concepts including directionality,
author/illustrator, and the parts of a book. Ask the children: "What do you think think the littlest reindeer can do?"
During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the main characters thoughts and actions. "Why do you think Dot and Oliver were friends? "Why do you think Dot and Oliver were Santa's special helpers?" "Why do you think Dot had a hard time trying to fly?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students "How do you think Dot will help Santa next year?"

Painting Snowmen
The students will be painting their own snowmen today. Students will be given paper, paint, and various materials in order to create their version of a snowman. After the students have created their art we will discuss the materials they used and their reasoning behind their choices.

Mighty Minutes #26- Echo Clapping
Today we will be creating patterns using clapping sounds. The students will try to "echo" or copy the pattern by clapping. We will increase the difficulty of the patterns as appropriate.

Sugar Monster
Today we will discuss how the sugar in certain foods affects our bodies. We will talk about sugars making us tired and causing cavities. We will conclude our discussion with the Choosy song, Sugar Monster. The song explains the affects of sugar in an upbeat tune, allowing the children to get up move while learning.
Question of the Day
What is your favorite thing about the holidays and why?
Today we will discuss our favorite parts of the holiday season. Each student will be given a chance to share their favorite part and explain why it's their favorite. We will then compile a list of the answers to compare.

Foam Painting
Using foam cutouts of trees, snowflakes, and
gingerbread men the children will be exploring the painting process. While the students are working we will discuss the various symbols of Christmas and how we chose to decorate them.

Mighty Minutes
Mighty Minutes #14- Scat Singing
Today we will be learning about and performing scat singing. We will first discuss how scat singing is a different kind of singing because it is composed of sounds instead of words. Our class will create a line using a combination of sounds and ask the students to repeat it. For example, "Bo Bo (echo), Doo boo (echo), Be boo bo (echo) Bo be doe be doe be (echo)" We will create various scat songs with the students and jazz it up with different rhythms.

Today we will play a version of Simon Says
using healthy actions. Movements for this game include healthy activities highlighted in the Choosy Nation CD as part of our lesson.
Choice Time
Library- Christmas Books
To go along with our Christmas study we will be adding various Christmas related literature to the library area. The students will have the opportunity to explore/interact with these books throughout the day.

Question of the Day
Who do you celebrate Christmas with?
Today we will discuss the people we celebrate the holiday with. Our discussion will include the family we may see  during this time of year and any other friends who may spend the time with us. We will also discuss the importance of spending time with the people we love.

Today we will painting pine cones to look like Christmas trees. We will first compare the appearance of our pine cones to a Christmas tree. Next, we will paint the pine cones green. After the pine cones have dried we will glue small pom poms all around the branches to represent ornaments.

Mighty Minutes #60- The Name Dance
Today the children will be coming up with their own dances. We will clap out the syllables in each child's name and then create a dance using their name. For example, [Car-ly, Car-ly], let's try the [Car-ly] dance." the student then creates their own dance. We will repeat this game until every child has had a turn.

Going to the Doctor
Today we will talk about the importance of going to the doctor when we don't feel good. We will discuss how the doctor helps us feeling and why it is important to listen to what our doctors say. We will conclude this discussion with the Choosy song, My Friend the Doctor.
Question of the Day
How can you get on Santa's nice list?
Today we will discuss ways we can be kind to one another in order to get on Santa's "nice list". We will talk about ways we can help others including our friends and family. Our discussion will also include the importance of being kind to each other.

Today we will learn a new rhyme, the students will pretend to make a cake while singing the chant. "Let's make a chocolate fudge cake, just like a baker man. We'll beat the eggs and mix it up as quickly as we can. We'll pat it and we'll ice it and we'll mark it with a [T], and put it in the oven for [Tabitha] and me!"

Choosy Dancing
Today we will interact and get our bodies moving by dancing to a few of our Choosy songs. The students will be able to help choose which songs we listen and dance to. This activity will help the students get their bodies moving and serve as a brain break for our learners.
