Choice Time
Dramatic Play Area- Animal Puppets
To go along with our animal teeth study we will be
adding some different animal puppets to the
dramatic play area such as a groundhog, Alligator,
Dinosaur, etc. The students will have the
opportunity to explore these items during free
play and small group times.
Question of the Day
How do you use your teeth?
Today the students will discuss different ways
they use their teeth. We will create a list of the
students' answers to review. Answers may include
things such as Eat, Smile, Bite, etc.
Large Group
Arrival Routine
Upon entering the classroom each student will go
to the restroom to wash their hands before
breakfast. After washing their hands the students
will set up their tables for breakfast by setting
out the proper tableware and utensils for that
specific meal. We will then sit together and serve
breakfast family style with the students. Once
finished eating the students will sit on the
carpet with a book while waiting for everyone to
be
complete. After all of the students have finished
eating they will put their books away and sit on
the edge of the carpet for circle time.

friends in both English and Spanish. We will then
sing
the days of the week song while updating the
calendar. After calendar the class will use the
song charts to sing some of our favorite circle
time songs. We will then go over our question of
the day while introducing new
vocabulary words and tapping into our higher order
thinking skills. The letter
of the week is Aa, the
number is 0,
the shape is circle, and the color is brown.Today's
question is "How do you use your teeth?"

The Tooth Book- Dr. Seuss
Purpose for Reading: To introduce the concept of
dental care and different types of teeth.
Vocabulary: Teeth, Brush, Floss, Dentist
Before Reading: We will discuss the various print
concepts including directionality,
author/illustrator, and the parts of a book. Ask
the children: "What can you use your teeth for?"
During Reading: Actively comment and take the time
to discuss vocabulary words and the main
characters thoughts and actions. "Why are teeth
important? "How are teeth different?" "What do you
think we shouldn't use our teeth for?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with
students while writing them on the "word" portion
of our class focus board. Ask the students "How
can we describe our teeth?"

Whose Smile?
Today we will be taking pictures of our smiles.We
will then put the pictures up and the kids will be
able to guess who's smile is who's. While trying
to guess the right pictures we will discuss how
each of our smiles and teeth are different and the
same.

Mighty Minutes #26- Echo Clapping
Today we will be creating patterns using clapping
sounds. The students will try to "echo" or copy
the pattern by clapping. We will increase the
difficulty of the patterns as appropriate.

Shubert is a S.T.A.R.
Today the children will hear the story, "Shubert
is a S.T.A.R.". We will read the story aloud while
questioning and explaining the characters'
behaviors/choices. After the story we will discuss
the importance of our Shubert story.

Today we will practice "brushing" our teeth using
a fake toothbrush and tooth pictures. We will
place various confetti pieces on to the tooth
picture and the students will then use the
toothbrush to brush away the confetti. After the
students have completed the task we will talk
about why brushing our teeth everyday is so
important.

Mighty Minutes #50- 1,2,3 What Do
I See?
We will collect several animal related items and
put them in a small basket covered with a scarf.
The teacher will then peek under the scarf and say
"1, 2, 3, what do I see?" The teacher will then
begin saying the name of the item while
emphasizing the initial sound. The children will
be invited to guess the name of the item and then
continue the game the same way with the different
items.

Today we will discuss taking care of bodies and
the feelings we get when our body is healthy. We
will discuss eating healthy and exercising to make
ourselves feel good. We will conclude this
discussion with the Choosy song, Celebrate Feeling
Great.

library area. The students will have the
opportunity to explore/interact with these books
throughout the day.

why they think animals have sharp teeth. We will
display the students' answers and then discuss why
certain animals have certain types of teeth. We
will introduce the words, Carnivore, Omnivore, and
Herbivore and explain why these different types of

Healthy vs. Unhealthy Food Sort
Today the students will be using what they have
learned about teeth to complete a healthy and
unhealthy food sort. We will first discuss types
of foods that are bad/good for our teeth and then
explain why certain foods affect our teeth in
different ways.

Mighty Minutes #23- Hi-Ho, the
Derry-O
Today we will learn a new song called Hi-Ho, the
Derry-O. We will sing to the tune of "The Farmer
in the Dell" while using the children's ideas in
additional verses. For example, "We're going [to
the store] We're going [to the store] Hi-ho, the
derry-o We're going [to the store]."

clean. We will discuss how the dentist helps us
and why it is important to listen to what our
dentists say. We will conclude this discussion

Playdough Flossing
The students will be practicing flossing today
using play dough and yarn. We will put play dough
between the openings of a large Lego to act as the
"food" stuck in our "teeth". We will then take a
piece of yarn to floss the play dough out of the
Lego. We will discuss why it is important to floss
as well as brush our teeth everyday.

Mighty Minutes #91- Move to the
Beat
Today we will be listening and moving our bodies
to various beats on a drum. We will start with a
slow rhythmic beat on the drum while telling the
students to listen carefully and try to move their
bodies to match the beat. Next, we will speed up
the beat and ask the students to move their bodies
faster in order to match the beat. Throughout this
activity we will alternate between fast, medium,
and slow rhythms for the students to try and
match.

Sugar Monster
Today we will discuss how the sugar in certain
foods affects our bodies. We will talk about
sugars making us tired and causing cavities. We
will conclude our discussion with the Choosy song,
Sugar Monster.The song explains the affects of
sugar in an upbeat tune, allowing the children to
get up move while learning.

Science Area- Teeth Photos
To enhance our teeth study this week we will be
adding different pictures of both human and animal
teeth to the science center for
exploration. The students will also have access to
magnifying glasses, microscopes, and other
scientific tools in order to make this exploration
even more interactive.

Race to lose a tooth
Today the students will be using dice to play a
racing game. There will be a paper mouth with
cotton balls all around it, as teeth. The students
will then roll the dice. After the dice has been
rolled the student will remove that number of
teeth from the mouth. The game is complete once
all of the teeth are gone.

Mighty Minutes #32- Walk the Line
Using masking tape or yarn, create a very long
line on the floor with sections that are straight,
curved, and diagonal. Hold up cards with letters
representing curved lines (B), straight lines (L),
and diagonal lines (A). Call attention to how the
lines form each letter. Have the children walk on
the line. Invite them to make their bodies
straight when they get to a straight line, curved
at the curved line, and leaning when they get to
a diagonal part of the line.
