Choice Time
Manipulative Area: Heart Math Puzzle
Today we will be practicing our number skills using heart shaped number puzzles. The puzzles will have the numbers 0-20 both written and represented through pictures. These items will be available for the students to explore throughout free play and small group times.

Question of the Day
What is kindness?
Today the students will discuss what they think kindness is. We will create a list of the students' answers to review. Answers may include things such as sharing, smiling, helping, etc.

Large Group
Arrival Routine
Upon entering the classroom each student will go to the restroom to wash their hands before breakfast. After washing their hands the students will set up their tables for breakfast by setting out the proper tableware and utensils for that specific meal. We will then sit together and serve breakfast family style with the students. Once finished eating the students will sit on the carpet with a book while waiting for everyone to be
complete. After all of the students have finished eating they will put their books away and sit on the edge of the carpet for circle time.

Today we will review the class rules and count our friends in both English and Spanish. We will then sing the days of the week song while updating the calendar. After calendar the class will use the song charts to sing some of our favorite circle time songs. We will then go over our question of the day while introducing new
vocabulary words and tapping into our higher order thinking skills. The letter of the week is Zz, the number is 4, the shape is rectangle, and the color is pink.Today's question is "What is kindness?

Love Monster- Rachel Bright
Purpose for Reading: To reinforce the concept of being kind and showing love.
Vocabulary: Love, Kindness, Care
Before Reading: We will discuss the various print concepts including directionality,
author/illustrator, and the parts of a book. Ask the children: "Why do you think our story is called Love Monster?"
During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the main characters thoughts and actions. "Why do you think nobody loves the monster? "Who do you think monster is going to find to love him?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students "Would you show the monster love?"

Cutting Out Hearts
Today the students will practice their fine motor skills by cutting out hearts. We will show the students how to fold the paper in half and cut on the heart line in order to create a heart. We will also help the students draw their own hearts to then cut out.


Mighty Minutes
Mighty Minutes #7- Hippity, Hoppity, How Many?
The teacher will close her fist and then shake
them a few times while saying "Hippity,
hoppity!... how many?" The teacher will then hold up some fingers on each hand and then ask the students to count the combined number of fingers. To finish the activity write the numeral in the air with the students.

My Heart Says Thanks
Today we will be talking about keeping our
hearts healthy. We will discuss heart healthy
foods and how exercising helps our hearts grow stronger and healthier. We will conclude this  lesson with the Choosy song, My Heart Says Thanks.
Question of the Day
How can you show kindness?

Today we will be using different colored paper hearts to create patterns. The students will be asked to continue and create different types of patterns. We will explain the rule of patterns and how they repeat, in attempt to encourage the children to explore past simple AB patterns.

Mighty Minutes #87- One, Two, Buckle My Shoe
We will learn a new rhyme today called One,
Two, Buckle my Shoe: "One, tow, buckle my
shoe. Three, four, shut the door. Five, six, pick up sticks. Seven, eight, lay them straight. Nine, ten, a big fat hen!" After we learn the chant for the first time, we will create new rhymes with each line such as, "One, two, cry boo hoo. Three, four, sit on the floor."

Like Choosy
Today we will talk about how to be Choosy kids. We will discuss eating healthy foods and moving our bodies to keep ourselves healthy and happy like Choosy. We will conclude this discussion with the song, Like Choosy.

Art Area- Heart Hole Punchers/Foam Heart Stickers
Today we will be exploring hearts using the
stickers and special hole punches. The students will have access to a wide variety of materials to use these items with. These items will be available for the students to explore throughout free play and small group times.

Friendship Quilt
Today we will be working as a class to create a friendship quilt. Each student will be given a sheet of paper to be used as their piece of the quit. They will then be able to decorate the paper using various collage materials. paint, oil pastels,etc. We will then hang the quilt by putting all the pieces together.

Mighty Minutes #18- I'm thinking Of...
Today we are going to play a guessing game.
One person will think of an object and then give clues describing the object. The other students will try to connect the clues and guess what the object is.

Choosy Freeze
Today the students will listen and interact with the song, Choosy Freeze. Throughout the song Choosy sings about being healthy while periodically asking the dancing students to "freeze".

Question of the Day
What is one kind thing you will do when you go home today?
Following our week of discussion, today the
students will come up with one kind thing to do at home. We will discuss how and why being kind at home is important to help show our families we love them.

Chalk Stenciling/Heart Stamping
Today the students will be exploring hearts
further using stamps and stencils. We will use chalk and black paper in order to create heart shapes using stencils. The children will use shaped paper towel rolls to as stampers to create heart shapes as well.

Mighty Minutes
Mighty Minutes #12- Ticky Ricky
Using a collection of items the children can name we will be playing a rhyming game. Snap, tap, or clap as we chant the rhyme: "Ticky Ricky, tacky racky, Chicky chacky choo." I like finding words that rhyme, how about you?" Each student will then be asked to select one of the objects and say a word that rhymes with it.

Shubert's Helpful Day
Today the children will hear the story, "Shubert's Helpful Day". We will read the story aloud while questioning and explaining the characters' behaviors/choices. After the story we will discuss the importance of our Shubert story.
