Question of the Day
How do you get ready to play in the snow?
To begin our clothing study, today we will
discuss how we dress to keep ourselves warm in the snow. We will also cover why it is important for us to dress for the weather.

Large Group
Arrival Routine
Upon entering the classroom each student will go to the restroom to wash their hands before breakfast. After washing their hands the students will set up their tables for breakfast by setting out the proper tableware and utensils for that specific meal. We will then sit together and serve breakfast family style with the students. Once finished eating the students will sit on the carpet with a book while waiting for everyone to be
complete. After all of the students have finished eating they will put their books away and sit on the edge of the carpet for circle time.

Today we will review the class rules and count our friends in both English and Spanish. We will then sing the days of the week song while updating the calendar. After calendar the class will use the song charts to sing some of our favorite circle time songs. We will then go over our question of the day while introducing new
vocabulary words and tapping into our higher order thinking skills. The letter of the week is Oo, the number is 6, the shape is octagon, and the color is black. Today's question is "How do you get ready to play in the snow?"

Purpose for Reading: To reinforce the concept of clothing and different types of clothes.
Vocabulary: Pajamas, Tune, Fret, Apron
Before Reading: We will discuss the various print concepts including directionality,
author/illustrator, and the parts of a book. Ask the children: "Why do you think Llama Llama wears red pajamas?"
During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the main characters thoughts and actions. "Why do you think Llama Llama screamed for his mom? "How do you think Mama Llama felt when she heard him screaming?" "How is your family similar to the family in our story?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students "Do you wear pajamas? What color are your pajamas?"

Paint with Fleece
The students will be painting with wool to
become more familiar with clothing materials. We will discuss the properties of wool and how it is used to make certain types of clothes. The students will be able to interact with the material in various ways.

Sing to the tune of "My Bonnie lies over the
ocean." Invite the children to perform the
movements as they sing. "[My body] [jumps] over the ocean. [My body] [jumps] over the sea. [My body] [jumps] over the ocean. Come [jump] over water with [me]." Replace my body with children's names and jumps with a variety of action words.

Snowball Parachute
Today we will be making a snow storm using cotton balls and a parachute. We will talk about how to dress if we were really in a snowstorm. During this activity we will play the Choosy CD, Music Moves Me.

Choice Time
Dramatic Play-Seasonal Clothing
To go along with our clothes study we will be adding some seasonal clothing to the dramatic play area such as snow coats, rain boots, sunglasses, etc. The students will have the opportunity to explore these items during free play and small group times.

Where do clothes come from?
To go along with our clothing study, we will be discussing where our clothes come from. We will cover how the clothes get to the stores and the different materials used to create different types of clothes.

During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the main characters thoughts and actions. "Why do you think the boy wanted snow white mittens? "How do you think Baba made the mittens?" "Why do you think the one mitten was so much bigger than the other at the end of the story?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students "Do you think this story could happen in real life? Why or why not?"

Painting Snow
Today the students will be using watercolors to paint real snow. The snow will be placed in the sensory table where students will be provided with paintbrushes, droppers, and watercolor paints. The students will be encouraged to interact with the materials in various ways in order to create a collaborative work of art.

Tell the children to squat down while you say the rhyme. Explain that they should listen for your signal to jump up. "One, two, three, four will you jump up off the floor? Five, six, seven, eight it's really, really, hard to wait. Listen now, and you will know: should you stay, or should you go?"

Today we will talk about foods we can eat in the winter to help us stay warm. We will discuss how we can use various healthy foods to make warm meals at home. We will complete our discussion with the Choosy song, Stir the Soup.

Why is it important to dress for the weather?
Today we will discuss why it is vital for us to dress for different types of weather. We will go over the various seasons and how our clothes change in order to adapt to the weather.

Today the students will take part in a snowball sorting game. The students will be asked to sort the snowballs into three groups: Large, Medium, and Small. The students will use the tweezers in order to move the "Snowballs" into the correct group.

The teacher will start by saying "Listen carefully to the clues I'm going to give you and try to figure out what I'm thinking." Describe a familiar object and have the children guess after each clue.

Penguin Relay Race
Today we will be having a penguin relay race using a rubber ball. The students will be divided into two groups; one student from each group will put the rubber ball between their legs to make them walk like a penguin. During this activity we will play the Choosy CD, Music Moves Me.

To go along with our snow study we will be
adding real snow to the sensory table. The
students will have the opportunity to explore the snow during free play and small group times.

Question of the Day
How can we compare our clothes?
Today we will discuss the various attributes to which we can compare our clothes. We will use these attributes to create a few different comparison charts. These charts may include topics such as, Pocket VS. No Pockets, Zippers/Buttons/Laces, Colors, etc.

Do you have pockets on your clothes today? How Many?
Today we will compare our clothes by counting our pockets. Each student will be asked to count the amount of pockets they have one their clothes. We will compile a list of the results and compare the highest number to the lowest number.

Today we will use pictures of different types of clothes to play a matching game. Students will be asked to create outfits that fit into certain seasons based on typical weather patterns.

Select a leader to draw a shape with her finger in the air, on the floor, or on a table. Model by playfully making mistakes and erasing them with an imaginary eraser. Sing to the tune of Mulberry Bush while the children are drawing "[Shawanda]
can make a circle, a circle, a circle. [Shawanda] can make a circle, just like this!"

To go along with our clothes study today, we will be having a clothing relay race. The students will race to put on several different layers of clothes ranging from various seasonal attributes. We will talk about the different types of clothes and the seasons we wear them in. During this activity we will listen to the Choosy CD, Choosy Nation.
