Question of the Day
What is your favorite taste? Why?
Today we will discuss what our favorite types of tastes are. We will compile a list of each of the answers and then analyze the data by comparing the results. The students will then explain why they chose the taste that they did.

Large Group
Arrival Routine
Upon entering the classroom each student will go to the restroom to wash their hands before breakfast. After washing their hands the students will set up their tables for breakfast by setting out the proper tableware and utensils for that specific meal. We will then sit together and serve breakfast family style with the students. Once finished eating the students will sit on the carpet with a book while waiting for everyone to be
complete. After all of the students have finished eating they will put their books away and sit on the edge of the carpet for circle time.

Today we will review the class rules and count our friends in both English and Spanish. We will then  sing the days of the week song while updating the calendar. After calendar the class will use the song charts to sing some of our favorite circle time songs. We will then go over our question of the day while introducing new
vocabulary words and tapping into our higher order thinking skills. The letter of the week is Hh, the number is13, the shape is trapezoid, and the color is yellow.Today's question is "What is your favorite taste and why?"

Purpose for Reading: To reinforce the concept of the five senses, focusing on taste.
Vocabulary: Senses, Flavor, Taste
Before Reading: We will discuss the various print concepts including directionality,
author/illustrator, and the parts of a book. Ask the children: "How do you use your sense of taste?"
During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the main characters thoughts and actions. "How can we describe what we taste? "How else can we use our sense of taste?" "Why is our sense of taste important?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students "What other flavors do you think would taste good together?"

Watercolor Painting Favorite Fruit
Today the students will be using watercolors in order to paint a picture of their favorite fruit. After everyone has finished we will compare the different fruits we have painted and explain why they are our favorites.

Write several action words on a chart. Help
children create a movement to associate with
each word. Call out one word at a time as the
children try out each motion. Have children take turns being the leader.

Salt Vs. Sugar
We will be suing our sense of taste to distinguish between salt and sugar. The students will be encouraged to tap into their other senses too including sight and smell. We will create a Venn Diagram comparing the two items.
Choice Time
Music Area- Instruments
Today we will be exploring the sense of hearing using different types of musical instruments. The students will have access to a wide variety of instruments, each with its own unique sound. These items will be available for the students to explore throughout free play and small group times.

Question of the Day
How can you describe what you hear?
Today the students will discuss different ways to describe sounds. We will create a list of the adjectives the students come up with. Answers may include words such as Loud, Quiet, Squeaky, etc.

Today we will be using our sense of hearing to go on a listening walk. We will take a walk around the school listening for different types of sounds. After our walk we will compile a list of the different sounds we heard and how they can be described.

Today the students will be using adjectives to describe the feel of various sensory blocks. Each student will be presented with a different textured block which they will then use their sense of touch to describe.

Mighty Minutes #52- Walk Around the Shapes
Arrange shape cards in a circle on the floor. Use several cards with the same shape. Play music, and instruct the children to walk around the circle and sit on a shape when the music stops. Point out the extra shape and say "Oh look, we have an extra triangle." Ask each child sitting on that shape to stand up and create a silly song and dance.

Today we will use our sense of touch to take part in a texture matching game. Students will be presented with objects of different touch to which they will try to identify.

The students will be playing a guessing game using their sense of hearing. Each student will be able to listen to a variety of sounds and attempt to guess what makes that noise.

The teacher will start by saying "Listen carefully to the clues I'm going to give you and try to figure out what I'm thinking." Describe a familiar object and have the children guess after each clue.
