Choice Time
Library Area- The Incredibles Books
To go along with our Disney study we will be adding various super hero related books to the library area. The students will have the
opportunity to explore/interact with these books throughout the day.

Question of the Day
If you could be a super hero what would your power be?
Following our story, The Incredibles, the students will be asked what type of power they would want if they were super heroes. We will compare the results of the question and discuss why we chose the things that we did.

Large Group
Arrival Routine
Upon entering the classroom each student will go to the restroom to wash their hands before breakfast. After washing their hands the students will set up their tables for breakfast by setting out the proper tableware and utensils for that specific meal. We will then sit together and serve breakfast family style with the students. Once finished eating the students will sit on the carpet with a book while waiting for everyone to be
complete. After all of the students have finished eating they will put their books away and sit on the edge of the carpet for circle time.

Today we will review the class rules and count our friends in both English and Spanish. We will then  sing the days of the week song while updating the calendar. After calendar the class will use the song charts to sing some of our favorite circle time songs. We will then go over our question of the day while introducing new
vocabulary words and tapping into our higher order thinking skills. The letter of the week is Dd, the number is 17, the shape is heart, and the color is red.  Today's question is "If you could be a super hero what would your power be?"

Purpose for Reading: To introduce the story of The Incredibles to go along with our art show projects.
Vocabulary: Power, Evil, Strength
Before Reading: We will discuss the various print concepts including directionality,
author/illustrator, and the parts of a book. Ask the children: "Why do you think this family is called the Incredibles?"
During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the main characters thoughts and actions. "Why do you think Mr.Incredible felt bored with his normal life?" "What do you think Jack Jack's power will be?" "Why do you think Syndrome wanted to destroy the Incredibles?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students "How is this family alike/different than yours?"

Create Your Own Super Hero
Today the students will be finishing their own versions of super heroes. The students will have access to various art supplies in order to create these heroes. We will also provide pictures of famous super heroes for the students to use as inspiration throughout this project. After the students have created their super heroes they will give him/her a name and describe their super power(s).

The children will sing, chant, or rap to a lively beat: "We like letters and we're here to say, We can make our letters in so many ways. We can make them with our fingers. We can make them with our hands. We can make them with our bodies. Oh yes, we can!" The children will then form the letters using their bodies.

Super Choosy
Today we will be talking about keeping how we can make healthy choices to be like Super Choosy. We will discuss healthy foods and how exercising helps our bodies grow stronger and healthier. We will conclude this lesson with the Choosy song, Super Choosy.

Ice Painting
Today the students will be creating Frozen
inspired paintings using blue and white paint and glitter. We will first mix our paint to create a light blue color to represent snow. After the paint is mixed we will add our glitter to give the color a sparkling affect. We will place the paint in the freezer for a couple of hours to give it a chilled feeling while painting.

Mighty Minutes #80- Hickory Dickory Dock
Today we will learn and count along with a new rhyme called Hickory Dickory Dock. "Hickory Dickory dock, the mouse ran up the clock. The clock struck [one], the mouse [ran down]. Hickory dickory dock." We will increase the hour each time we repeat the rhyme.

Today we will be talking about why it's important to let our bodies rest. We will discuss different ways we can calm our bodies in order to effectively rest. We will conclude this lesson with the Choosy song, Choosy Says Let's Rest.

Balancing Over Fire
Today the students will be walking over "fire" like super heroes. We will create a bridge for the children to safely walk across, under the bridge will be our fire made of red, orange, and yellow paper. Each student will be given a chance to cross the bridge and pretend to be a super hero.

Mighty Minutes #64- Paper Towel Rap
Today we will be creating our own raps and then singing them through a paper towel roll as a microphone. Each child will be encouraged to share a rap or song by singing through the paper towel roll. We will label the rolls so each child has their own to decrease the spread of germs.

Why do you think Elsa locked herself in her room for all those years?
Following our story, Frozen, the students will be asked why they think Elsa decided to lock herself in her room throughout her and Anna's childhood. We will share our answers to compare and then discuss what we would have done if we were Elsa.

Melting Elsa's Hands
We will be making frozen hands using latex
gloves, water, and various Frozen inspired items such as bead, glitter, or sequins. We will fill the latex gloves with the Frozen items and water and then tie the glove like a water balloon. The glove will go in the freezer overnight so that it can become a solid piece of ice. After being frozen we will cut off the latex glove and allow the children to melt the hands using warm water and
salt.

Mighty Minutes #26- Echo Clapping
Today we will be creating patterns using clapping sounds. The students will try to "echo" or copy the pattern by clapping. We will increase the difficulty of the patterns as appropriate.

Today the children will hear the story, "Shubert's New Friend". We will read the story aloud while questioning and explaining the characters' behaviors/choices. After the story we will discuss the importance of our Shubert story.

Mighty Minutes #59- Clap the Beat
Today we will practice counting the syllables of several Disney related items. We will create a rhythmic pattern by clapping each syllable as we name the objects. For example, Dal-ma-tian (3 claps), Mer-maid (2 claps), Bam-bi (2 claps), or Star (1 clap). Repeat the clapping syllable rhythm together and then create a new pattern by changing the order of items.
