Library Area:Tree Books
To go along with our tree study we will be adding various tree related literature to the library area. The students will have the opportunity to explore/interact with these books throughout the day.

Arrival Routine
Upon entering the classroom each student will go to the restroom to wash their hands before breakfast. After washing their hands the students will set up their tables for breakfast by setting out the proper tableware and utensils for that specific meal. We will then sit together and serve breakfast family style with the students. Once finished eating the students will sit on the carpet with a book while waiting for everyone to be
complete. After all of the students have finished eating they will put their books away and sit on the edge of the carpet for circle time.

Question of the Day
Did you see a tree on the way to school
today?
We will begin our tree study by identifying and describing the trees we see in our community. Our discussion will include any trees the children may have seen on the way to school or trees they have seen at school.

Today we will review the class rules and
introduce the topic of trees. We will then sing the days of the week song while updating the calendar. After calendar the class will use the song charts to sing some of our favorite circle time songs. We will then go over our question of the day while introducing new vocabulary words
and tapping into our higher order thinking skills. The  letter of the week is Nn, the number is 11, the shape is square, and the color is red. Today's question is "Did you see a tree on the way to school today?"

Our Tree Named Steve
Purpose for Reading: To introduce the concept of trees and their characteristics.
Vocabulary: Barbecue, Tree, Adjust
Before Reading: We will discuss the various print concepts including directionality,
author/illustrator, and the parts of a book. Ask the children: "Why do you think they named their tree Steve?"
During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the main characters thoughts and actions. "Why do you think Steve became important to the family? "How else do you think the family used Steve?" "How did Steve help the family?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students "Do you have a tree by your house?"

Leaf Rubbings
The children will use the leaves from their nature walk in order to create leaf rubbings. First we will discuss the   differences/similarities of the leaves and identify the leaf parts (stem, veins, etc.) The
students will then place various leaves
underneath a piece of paper. The students will then run a crayon over the leaf.

The students will take part in a tree I Spy game. Each student will be asked to find a certain tree related object based on the Spyer's clues.

Keeping our Teeth Healthy
Today the children will learn about different ways they can keep their teeth healthy. We've already discussed the importance of brushing our teeth so this discussion will focus more around other ways to care for our teeth. We will talk about flossing, eating healthy foods such as apples, and drinking certain foods such as milk.

Today we will discuss the size of different trees using the comparing words shorter and taller. We will discuss if we are taller or shorter than a tree and compare various sized trees.

Painting with Leaves
The children will paint with the leaves or items that they collected on their nature walk. While painting we will discuss the different properties of the leaves and the various marks they create
with the paint.

The students will learn a new morning song to the tune of BINGO. "To all of my friends at our preschool, Hello I say to you, H-E-L-L-O, H-E-L-L-O, H-E-L-L-O, hello to all of you!" Ms.Jessica will sing the song first and then have the students join in.

Nature Walk
The class will go on a nature walk around the school building. While we are on the walk we are going to observe changes in the trees and leaves and also we will be collecting nature items that we find along the way.

Science Area: Tree Parts
To enhance our tree study this week we will be adding different parts of a tree to the science center for exploration. The students will also have access to magnifying glasses, tweezers, and other scientific tools in order to make exploration even more interactive.

Pom Pom Apple Counting
Teachers will design small trees out of paper
towel rolls and construction paper and children will be engaged to pick up apple colored pom poms with tweezers and put them inside of the paper towel rolls, they will be encouraged to count the pom poms.

Today we will talk about ways we can calm
ourselves down at school. Within this discussion we will talk about the various uses of our safe place, fidgets, breathing techniques, and yoga. The teachers will scaffold this lesson based on what the children already know about our safe
place and breathing techniques.

Today the students will be working together to paint a tree branch. The branch will be placed in the middle of the table and the students will take turns adding their creative touch to the piece.

names of animals who live in trees. The song will be sung to the tune of "Oh where has my little dog gone?" replacing the word dog with animals who live in trees.

Taking Care of our Health
With the weather changing people are more
prone to getting sick so today we will discuss ways we can prevent spreading germs and staying healthy. We will cover topics such as dressing appropriately while outside, washing our hands, covering our mouths when we cough/sneeze, eating healthy, and more.

During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the main characters thoughts and actions. "Why do you think Pablo's grandfather decorates a tree him? "Why do you think Pablo is worried his grandfather forgot about his tree?" "Why do you think Pablo is so excited for his tree?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students "Have you ever decorated a tree?"

Tree Collage
The children will use the items from our nature walk, the leave projects, and the extra items in our science center to create tree collages. First we will discuss the different parts of trees and the properties of each part. The students will then use glue and paper to create their own tree collage.

The students will take part in a guessing game activity using different tree parts. A mystery bag will be introduced to the students with a mystery item inside. The teacher will describe what is in
the bag until it is correctly guessed. Each child will then be given a chance to place and describe an item in the mystery bag.

Choosy Dancing
Today we will interact and get our bodies moving by dancing to a few of our Choosy songs. The students will be able to help choose which songs we listen and dance to. This activity will help the students get their bodies moving and serve as a brain break for our learners.
