SPRING BREAK - NO SCHOOL
Question of the Day
How did you spend your break?
Today we will discuss the different ways we
spent the break away from school. Each
student will be given a chance to share how they celebrated the break. We will then compile a list of the different responses and discuss how everyone celebrates differently.

Large Group
Arrival Routine
Upon entering the classroom each student will go to the restroom to wash their hands before breakfast. After washing their hands the students will set up their tables for
breakfast by setting out the proper
tableware and utensils for that specific
meal. We will then sit together and serve
breakfast family style with the students.
Once finished eating the students will sit
on the carpet with a book while waiting for
everyone to be complete. After all of the
students have finished eating they will put
their books away and sit on the edge of
the carpet for circle time.

Today we will review the class rules and count our friends in both English and Spanish. We will then  sing the days of the week song while updating the calendar. After calendar the class will use the song charts to sing some of our favorite circle time songs. We will then go over our question of the day while introducing new vocabulary words and tapping into our higher order thinking skills. The letter of the week is Ww, the number is 9, the shape is triangle, and the color is white. Today's question is "How did you spend your Spring break?"

Purpose for Reading: To introduce the concept of Spring and Spring animals
Vocabulary: Flock, Ducks, Waddle
Before Reading: We will discuss the various print concepts including directionality,
author/illustrator, and the parts of a book.
Ask the children: "What do you think Pete
and the 5 little ducks are going to do?"
During Reading: Actively comment and
take the time to discuss vocabulary words
and the main characters thoughts and
actions. "Why do you think the ducks kept
leaving? "How did Pete feel after all the
ducks left?" "How do you think the ducks
made Pete the boat?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students

Jungle Drums
Today the students will be using various recycled materials in order to create their own drums. We will create our own unique drums and then decorate them using markers, paper, and various collage materials. Once the drums are complete we will take turns playing our new instruments and comparing the sounds they create.

Mighty Minutes #07- Hippity, Hoppity,
How Many?
The teacher will close her fist and then shake them a few times while saying "Hippity, hoppity!... how many?" The teacher will then hold up some fingers on each hand and then ask the students to count the combined number of fingers. To finish the activity write the numeral in the air with the students.

Today we will talk about
foods we can eat to stay healthy and
strong. We will discuss how we can use
various healthy foods to make nutritious
meals at home. We will complete our
discussion with the Choosy song, Stir the
Soup

Science Area- Seeds
To enhance our
Spring study this week we will be adding
different types of seeds to the science center for exploration. The students will also have access to magnifying glasses, microscopes, and other scientific tools in order to make this exploration even more interactive.

Question of the Day
Do you like Spring?
To begin our Spring
study we will first ask each student if they
like the Spring season. We will create a
Yes and No chart to display the data we
gather. We will then analyze the data by
comparing the results. The children will
also be asked to explain their response
for further understanding.

During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the
main characters thoughts and actions. "Why do you think Luna Girl took the butterflies?" "How is Catboy treating the butterflies?" "Why do you think the butterflies didn't like being treated rough?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words
with students while writing them on the
"word" portion of our class focus board.
Ask the students "Why is it important to
be gentle with out friends?"

Jungle Books
Today the students will be working to create a jungle themed book based off our story, The Jungle Book. We will be using large paper, stickers, tape, markers, and various collage materials to create our books. Once the books are complete the students will have the opportunity to share their stories with their friends.

Mighty Minutes #87- One, Two, Buckle
My Shoe
We will learn a new rhyme today called One, Two, Buckle my Shoe: "One, tow, buckle my shoe. Three, four, shut the door. Five, six, pick up sticks. Seven, eight, lay them straight. Nine, ten, a big fat hen!" After we learn the chant for the first time, we will create new rhymes with each line such as, "One, two, cry boo hoo. Three, four, sit on the floor."

Today we will continue our talk about foods we can eat to help us stay healthy and strong. We will discuss how we can use various healthy foods to make nutritious meals at home. We will complete our discussion with the Choosy song, Stir the Soup 2 which serves as an extension to the first Stir the Soup song.

Dramatic Play- Spring Flowers
To go along with our Spring study we will be adding various spring flowers to the
dramatic play area. The students will have the opportunity to explore these items during free play and small group times.

How can we describe Spring?
Today we
will list characteristics of the Spring
season. We will discuss Spring symbols,
holidays, foods, clothes, activities and so
on.

Today the students will be using different art media to create their own dogs. We will discuss the type of dogs we know and which kind of dog we would want. After the picture is finished the students will be asked to name their dog and then write the name on the picture.

Today we will be playing a counting exercising game. The students will be asked to complete two and three step actions while counting out their movements.

Shubert is a STAR
Today the children will
hear the story, "Shubert is a STAR". Miss
Jessica will read the story aloud while
questioning and explaining the characters'
behaviors/choices. After the story we will
discuss the importance of our Shubert
story.
Question of the Day
What types of animals do you think we
will start seeing in Spring?
Today we will discuss what kind of animals we see in the Spring. We will use the results of this question to give us an insight of our
students' previous knowledge on the topic. After the question has been answered we will read our story and compare it to our results.

Snakes
Today the students will be using spirals drawn on paper to create their own snakes. Students will be presented with various art supplies in order to design their snakes. After the snakes are complete the students will be able to use them to help engage in sociodramatic play.

Mighty Minutes #50- 1,2,3 What Do I
See?
We will collect several items number related items and put them in a small basket covered with a scarf. The teacher will then peek under the scarf and say "1, 2, 3, what do I see?" The teacher will then begin saying the name of the item while emphasizing the initial sound. The children will be invited to guess the name of the item and then continue the game the same way with the different
items.

Art Show 2018
Today the students and families will be taking part in an art show. The theme of our art show is Disney; the students have made several Disney themed projects that will be displayed in the classroom. Families will be invited to come and walk through the art show to view their children's projects.
