Choice Time
Art Area- Rainbow Collage Materials
Today we will be exploring the sense of sight using vivid colors. The students will have access to a wide variety of rainbow colors materials. These items will be available for the students to explore throughout free play and small group
times.

Question of the Day
How can you describe sight?
Today the students will discuss different ways to describe the things they see. We will create a list of the adjectives the students come up with. Answers may include words such as Dark, Pretty, Bright, etc.

Large Group
Arrival Routine
Upon entering the classroom each student will go to the restroom to wash their hands before breakfast. After washing their hands the students will set up their tables for breakfast by setting out the proper tableware and utensils for that specific meal. We will then sit together and serve breakfast family style with the students. Once finished eating the students will sit on the carpet with a book while waiting for everyone to be
complete. After all of the students have finished eating they will put their books away and sit on the edge of the carpet for circle time.

Today we will review the class rules and count our friends in both English and Spanish. We will then  sing the days of the week song while updating the calendar. After calendar the class will use the song charts to sing some of our favorite circle time songs. We will then go over our question of the day while introducing new vocabulary words and tapping into our higher order thinking skills. The letter of the week is Ff, the number is 12, the shape is cube, and the color is red. Today's question is "How can you describe sight?"

Purpose for Reading: To reinforce the concept of the five senses, focusing on Sight.
Vocabulary: Senses, Colors, Sight
Before Reading: We will discuss the various print concepts including directionality,
author/illustrator, and the parts of a book. Ask the children: "What colors do you see?"
During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the main characters thoughts and actions. "How can we describe what we see? "How else can we use our sense of sight?" "Why is our sense of sight important?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students "What else did you see in our book?"

Taking Pictures
To learn more about sight, today the students will be using a camera to take a picture. After they take the picture the students will describe what they saw in the camera. We will then display the students' pictures as a description of how they see our classroom.

Mighty Minutes #90- Little Miss Muffet
Today we will sing and act along with a new
song called Little Miss Muffet. "Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet, eating her curds and whey. Along came a spider who sat down beside her and frightened Miss Muffet away."

Blindfolded Hot or Cold
Today we will learn how important our sense of sight is. One student will be blindfolded while the other students help him find a selected object by playing hot or cold.

The students will be playing a guessing game using their sense of smell. Each student will be able to smell a variety of scented cups and attempt to guess what the smell is.

The teacher will place an item into the feely box. A student will then reach inside the box, feel the item, and attempt to describe it. The box will be passed around so every student gets a turn.

Scratch and Sniff Cards
The students will be playing a guessing game using their sense of smell. Each student will be able to smell a variety of scratch and sniff cards and attempt to guess what the smell is.

Kitchen Area- Spice Containers
Today we will be exploring the sense of smell using strong scented spices. The students will have access to a wide variety of empty spice containers each with it's own dynamic scent. These items will be available for the students to explore throughout free play and small group times.

Question of the Day
What is your favorite thing to see? Why?
Today we will discuss what our favorite things to see are. We will compile a list of each of the answers and then analyze the data by comparing the results. The students will then explain why they chose the sight that they did.

Painting Blindfolded
Today we will be painting without our sense of sight. The students will be learning how valuable the sense of sight is as they attempt to paint blindfolded. Students will be given pain and a brush to use on the paper in front of them. The teachers will help guide the students' hands to keep the paint on the paper.

Mighty Minutes #19- I Spy with my Little Eye
The students will take part in an I Spy Game. Each student will be asked to find a certain object based on the Spyer?s clues.

Rainbow Hunt
We will be using our sense of sight to find
different colored objects around the classroom. The students will be instructed to find one object of each color of the rainbow. We will then put all of the items together in order to create a rainbow.

Today the students will be painting using spice scented paints. We will strong scents such as cinnamon and Paprika to ensure the smells come through the paint. The students will compare the smells during and after the activity.

We will be playing Simon says so the students will try to do every movement Simon says however, if Tiger says to do something they are "out". Students will be given the opportunity to quietly roar like a tiger to get back in the game.

Spice Playdough
Today we will be exploring our sense of smell by using various spices to make playdough. We will be using strong scents such as cinnamon, clove, cocoa, and paprika.
Choice Time
Sensory Table- Sensory Soup
Today we will be exploring the 5 senses by
creating a sensory soup. The "soup" will contain materials that require all five of the senses such as smelling jars, colored water, textured bath toys, jingle bells, etc. This sensory experience will be available for the students to explore throughout free play and small group times.

How can you describe taste?
Today the students will discuss different ways to describe tastes. We will create a list of the adjectives the students come up with. Answers may include words such as Sour, Sweet, Gross, etc.

During Reading: Actively comment and take the time to discuss vocabulary words and the main characters thoughts and actions. "How can we describe what we taste? "How else can we use our sense of taste?" "Why is our sense of taste important?"
After Reading: Review vocabulary words with students while writing them on the "word" portion of our class focus board. Ask the students "What other flavors do you think would taste good together?"

Draw your Favorite Food
To go along with our discussion of taste we will talk about our favorite foods. The students will then draw their favorite foods while explaining why they like that taste the most.

A mystery bag will be introduced to the students with a mystery item inside. The teacher will describe what is in the bag until it is correctly guessed. Each child will then be given a chance to place and describe an item in the mystery bag.

favorite foods. In our discussion we will also talk about why we like certain foods. We will conclude our discussion with the Choosy song, My Choosy Plate.
